Contaminant Assessment & Remediation
We provide solutions for environmental challenges associated with regulated constituents in soil and groundwater.
M&A has extensive experience assessing and remediating subsurface contamination at federal and state Superfund sites, as well as in environments where regulated constituents occur naturally. We can address a range of anthropogenic contaminants, including industrial solvents, fuel hydrocarbons, perchlorate, nitrate, and sulfate, as well as natural constituents such as arsenic and TDS. In addition, we specialize in developing models to project contaminant behavior and evaluate effective remedial strategies in complex hydrogeologic environments. Our experience spans both traditional pump-and-treat and soil-vapor extraction to innovative, in-situ remediation approaches. We have effectively applied the latter to address localized contamination associated with active and historical industrial sources.
Our work has supported successful negotiations between potentially responsible parties and agencies — from the initial site characterization through the final remedial design and implementation
| Characterize | Characterize the occurrence and nature of contaminants in both the vadose zone and groundwater |
|---|---|
| Sample groundwater, soil vapor, and/or soil in accordance with regulatory protocols | |
| Model | Project contaminant migration, attenuation, and cleanup over time in soils and groundwater |
| Design & Oversee | Design and supervise the construction of all types of wells used in environmental investigations and remediations, including monitoring, extraction, and injection wells |
| Comply | Formulate / evaluate cleanup alternatives to comply with federal and state regulations |
| Prepare a range of plans (monitoring, quality assurance, and health and safety) and reports (remedial investigation, feasibility study, and remedial action) to meet regulatory requirements |
